Jeweler Tells Woman Shed Be “Lucky” to Be in a Relationship for 50 DaysHer Mic-Drop Response WINS the Internet

Part of the problem with the American obsession with individualism is the breeding ground it creates for a “do what you feel” lifestyle. It seems the latest trend is to reject everybody’s standards and all objective moral truths for the sake of ‘finding ourselves’ and the pursuit of happiness.

Live in the moment. Seize the day. Carpe diem ’til the cows come home.

…And all that fun motivational poster stuff.

While those phrases may make for cute Facebook statuses, they make for pretty crappy relationships.

It’s no wonder the concept of “love” has gotten so lost. We’re so hooked on a feeling that we’ve forgotten love is an active choice–and ultimately, unfailing.

“It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”~1 Corinthians 13:7-8

But one wise, elderly woman is out to remind our generation what it really means to fight for marriage in a time when divorce rates are skyrocketing and the value on commitment is dwindling.

Nikema Evett, a jewelry store employee, details the encounter she had with the woman in a viral Facebook post that is giving the Internet a much-needed lesson in tough love:

“A lady came in the store looking for a new wedding band for her husband named Harry. She told me her and her husband have been seriously married for 50 years on Sept 2.

This is our conversation:

Me: ‘Wow.. I would be lucky if I get in a relationship for 50 days.’

Her: ‘No, not lucky.. Just lazy…young people only care about one thing…MONEY… but what happens when the stability you married isn’t so stable anymore? What happens when you get bored? Young people today don’t want to fight for anything. Not even the one thing that cost more and lasts longer than money ever could. Find passion, give compassion, find love, and see yourself looking at 50 years.’

Me: ‘So what does 50 years look like?’

Her: ‘Harry Winston’ “

Mic.

DROP.

 I’m pretty sure nobody’s going to be ring-shaming this woman’s hard-earned dazzler.

Facebook

But most importantly, she knows the rock on her finger is NOT the foundation upon which her marriage stands—and that wisdom will outshine a Winston ANY day.
