Ariana Grande says Las Vegas shooting is terrorism, calls for gun control

Ariana Grande tweeted Monday about the Las Vegas shooting that left more than 50 people dead and 500 people injured.

“My heart is breaking for Las Vegas,” the pop star wrote. “We need love, unity, peace, gun control & for people to look at this & call this what it is = terrorism.”

Stephen Paddock, 64, opened fire on a country music festival Sunday night from his room at the Mandalay Bay hotel. The Washington Post reported that police are “not treating the tragedy as terrorism.”

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Monday “it would be premature to weigh in” on whether the shooting would be considered domestic terrorism, according to the Post.

In May, Grande’s concert in Manchester, England, was the target of a suicide bomber who killed 22 people and injured dozens more. The attack was investigated by authorities as an act of terrorism, and the Islamic State claimed responsibility.

Singer Jason Aldean, who was performing at the time of the Las Vegas shooting, released a statement via Instagram. He said the night was “beyond horrific.”

“It hurts my heart that this would happen to anyone who was just coming out to enjoy what should have been a fun night,” Aldean wrote.
